Wishing you a very gastro new year
The prefix ‘gastro’, from the ancient Greek for stomach, was first used in combination with the word “pub”, needing no introduction, in London in 1991. The conjoining marked the birth of a new trend of local boozers that aspired to serve food on a par with any on ‘the Continent’, i.e. Europe, as opposed to the usual fare too reminiscent of school dinners.
