Built over 150 years ago during the reign of King Rama IV, Charoen Krung was Bangkok’s first Western-style road. Nicknamed New Road back then and many decades afterwards, Charoen Krung starts from the east side of Wat Pho next to the Grand Palace, initially running eastward before beginning to gradually shift south as it crosses the Rob Krung canal into the northern part of China Town.
