Camellia, comet and four-leaf clover, lucky charms were staples for the superstitious Gabrielle Chanel. A penchant for wheat was evident in her Paris apartment, decorated with cereal grain as a brass bouquet, in gilded wood on the sitting-room fireplace, as gilded sheaves for a table leg, and a simple blade painted by Dali.
