Bitter sweet symphony
Prokofiev and Shoshtakovich: two Russians, two composers, both persecuted under Stalin, both disgraced and then rehabilitated, both forced to write not their own musical notes, but notes that Stalin had to approve as notes thought appropriate for Mother Russia. Such were the obstacles of two great composers, imposed by living in a vast land under a despicable tyrant.
